The Gate Theatre is an artist-led organisation producing original work of world class excellence which connects, questions and transforms our audiences. We develop and support emerging and established artists with ambition, talent and skill to produce new work, alongside reinvigorating existing work from the Irish and international canon.
The Gate was founded in 1928 by Hilton Edwards and Micheál MacLiammóir, with a first season that included Peer Gynt, The Hairy Ape and Salomé. In 1930 it moved into the Rotunda's 18th-century Upper Concert Hall, its home ever since.
The Gate is led by Artistic Director Róisín McBrinn and Executive Director Colm O'Callaghan, with the staff, artists and crew who bring every production to the stage.
